| Bird Rescue, Adoption & Sanctuary Groups Many new bird-specific rescue, adoption, and sanctuary organizations are now being founded in response to the rapidly increasing number of displaced parrots and other captive exotic birds in our communities. Many groups are committed to both placing existing birds in adoptive homes or sanctuaries AND reducing the number of unwanted birds by discouraging breeding. Sadly, certain "rescue" groups may not be willing to acknowledge the connection between breeding and homelessness — or worse, they may actually use a "rescue" organization as a front to obtain free breeding stock! All of the organizations listed below deal every day with the sad, ever-increasing effects of the irresponsible production and marketing of parrots and other pet birds. Some may not have a formal statement against all bird breeding, and some may take donations of money or supplies from PETCO, PETsMART, Kaytee, or other companies that promote breeding. However, all groups on this list are helping to stop bird homelessness by not breeding birds or adopting birds into breeding situations. Please thoroughly research any organization you plan to work with regarding the adoption or surrender of your bird. If you would like a link to your adoption, rescue, or sanctuary organization listed here, please e-mail us with your link request and a copy of your mission statement, your adoption and/or surrender contract, and your views about bird breeding.
